Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main benefits of Wi-Fi 7 access points for businesses?
Wi-Fi 7 access points are designed for higher capacity, faster performance, and lower latency than previous Wi-Fi generations. That means smoother video meetings, better roaming, more reliable connections in busy areas, and a stronger experience for high-density environments like offices, campuses, healthcare facilities, and public venues.
How does Wi-Fi 7 improve performance in high-density environments?
Wi-Fi 7 is built to handle more devices at the same time with less congestion. In practical terms, it reduces slowdowns when many users connect concurrently—ideal for open offices, large buildings, classrooms, and event spaces where performance often drops during peak hours.
Is Wi-Fi 7 backward compatible with older devices?
Yes. Wi-Fi 7 access points are designed to support mixed device environments, meaning your existing Wi-Fi 6/6E/5 devices can still connect. As you refresh laptops, phones, tablets, and IoT devices over time, you gradually unlock the full benefits of Wi-Fi 7.
Are these Wi-Fi 7 access points compatible with 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz?
Yes all 3. Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) access points are tri-band capable and are designed to operate on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz—including deployments in Canada and the United States. The 6 GHz band (often referred to as Wi-Fi 6E/7 spectrum) can deliver cleaner channels, higher capacity, and better performance in busy environments, but availability and channel settings depend on local regulatory rules and proper configuration for your region.
Are CW917X APs working with Cisco Controller or Meraki Cloud?
Yes both systems. The CW917x Wi-Fi 7 access points are designed as a “unified” portfolio that can be deployed either cloud-managed in the Meraki Dashboard or controller-managed with Cisco Catalyst wireless (e.g., Catalyst 9800 WLC).
Can we switch later from Catalyst controller mode to Meraki cloud management (or the opposite)?
In many cases, yes—but switching modes is a migration process, not a “toggle.” For example, if an AP is in Meraki management mode, it won’t join a Catalyst controller until it’s migrated back.
